Commissioner Jacob Fletcher grew up on the Space Coast, lived in Lakeland and Tampa, and settled in the City of Alachua at the end of 2021. His diverse experiences across Florida’s unique communities provide him with a comprehensive understanding of regional challenges, making him an adaptable and empathetic leader committed to representing all citizens.

Currently, Commissioner Fletcher is a Data Engineer at the University of Florida, where he specializes in leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence to address the University’s evolving needs. His prior experience as a machine learning engineer, focused on building scalable AI systems, further strengthens his data-driven approach to problem-solving.

A passionate outdoors enthusiast, Commissioner Fletcher has also served as President of the Florida Speleological Society for the past three years. In this leadership role, he advocates for conservation, education and safe exploration of Florida’s vast cave systems.

With his technical expertise and respect for Florida’s natural environment, Commissioner Fletcher brings a forward-thinking, sustainability-driven perspective to the Alachua City Commission. His diverse living experiences enable him to approach challenges with a well-rounded outlook, balancing innovation and growth with a deep commitment to preserving the city’s unique character and natural beauty.
