Legacy Park

In 2010, the City of Alachua saw an opportunity to expand the immediate and long-term recreational and cultural opportunities for its citizens and visitors as a 105-acre site contiguous with the City's premier community park - the Hal Brady Recreation Complex - was available for purchase.

The large, undeveloped site had the potential to expand existing programs as well as offer new passive recreation within the heart of the City.

Several years later, the first phase of the community's dream for this site was realized on June 14, 2017, when the Mayor, Commissioners and City Staff cut the ribbon to unveil Legacy Park Multipurpose Center to the citizens and visitors of Alachua.

Multipurpose Center

The expansive 40,000 square foot multipurpose facility is like no other of its kind in the area, and will be the site of many recreational, cultural arts and community events. The crown jewel of this completely open floor plan structure is the gymnasium area, which is comprised of four full-sized basketball/volleyball courts, including a championship court in the center of it all.

The $8 million facility also includes a performance stage, four multipurpose rooms, a lobby equipped with concessions, administrative offices and ample parking.

Legacy Park Multipurpose Center is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Phase Two and beyond

Phase Two of the Legacy Park project – which will be funded, through the Wild Spaces Public Places sales tax – will be the addition of two multipurpose fields and an outdoor amphitheater, with later phases to include more outdoor passive recreation areas, such as walking trails, a dog park, picnic areas, etc.
