The City of Alachua Summer Youth Employment Program is a multi-week initiative designed to provide youth ages 14 to 18 with enriching and constructive work experiences. Participants will be able to perform various tasks within a municipal government and develop skills that will offer personal growth and development and benefit them for future employment. Participants will perform duties that benefit the community and assist municipal functions. The Program is coordinated through the Office of the City Manager.
Applicants must be at least 14 years in age and no older than 18 years in age as of June 12, 2017. Residency in the city of Alachua is not a requirement, however, preference will be given to city of Alachua residents.
Participants will be placed within a municipal department to perform basic functions and develop skills as they enjoy an enriching and constructive experience.
The estimated duration of the Summer Youth Employment Program is June 19, 2017 – August 13, 2017. Participants will work no more than 80 hours total for the duration of employment. The City of Alachua reserves the right to terminate the employment at any time.
Participants will be compensated at a rate of $9.00 per hour.
Availability of Employment Positions:
The availability of employment positions is based upon the needs of various City departments and available funding.

- Applicants whose skills, interests, hobbies and experience most closely match the employment position may be contacted for testing, interviewing and other pre-selection processing.
- An applicant is considered for selection and is notified; then a background check and any necessary pre-employment screening are performed.
