Purpose: The City Commission agreed to appoint an Affordable Housing Committee to explore the creation of a non age restricted affordable housing community. In 2007, Alachua was selected by the Florida Department of Community Affairs to participate in a pilot study. This participation allowed the City to receive consulting services at no cost to guide the City through the process. The Committee is committed to offer the citizens of the City of Alachua opportunities to improve their personal economic self-sufficiency by helping to develop, produce, and manage affordable (workforce) housing in safe neighborhoods, including rental units and home ownership programs.
